...and a particular thanks to the OLF-er who built Esbjorn Hazelius that guitar!
(And I'm embarrassed I can't remember who made that fine instrument.)
But thanks to the link to Jul i Folkton, I've been introduced to some wonderful music that I've been enjoying thoroughly!

So many thanks, and congratulations!

Steve

P.S.--there's a number of other videos that are great--check them out--I just "grabbed" this one...

I ...think... it was Lars Rasmussen!

Same thing here. I've been "grooving" on Esbjorn Hazelius's Malåberg for sometime now! He's really quite good. Even though I understand only a couple of words.

Scandinavian Music Rocks Man! [:Y:]

Malåberg - Esbjorn's playing a nice sounding guitar here though I don't think it's Lars'

Vittskövlevisan-
This is the song posted originally but of a poorer quality- not bad though. Wish I could find the one posted. It was on some Swedish Daytime TV program.

Since the title of the thread is A General Thanks to our Scandinavian Brethren, I'll say thank you! Lars makes some fine guitars (even though he's a Swede... pfft

KIDDING! I'm a big fan of his work, and he knows that).

Here's some more Scandinavian music, this clip is by Andreas Aase, who plays instruments by OLF'er Tony Francis and myself

Sweet clips.... we're in talented company, indeed!

Arnt, that's a crazy instrument - 8 strings?? What is it?

"...we're in talented company, indeed!"

Yes we are.

Arnt, I was hoping you would weigh in, even being of Norwegian extraction. (No one is perfect, right? :P )
Billy, glad you remember Vittskövlevisan. That's the tune that got me, and of all the versions I've heard, I remain fondest of the one done on that Swedish tv show. Unfortunately I can't find it either...perhaps it's been pulled.

You should check out their newest album (I think?) with the simple title "Live".
And give a listen to the third cut, "Det lyser En Stjarna" (and the first "a" should have a couple of little dots above it, but I'm not clever enough to insert those....)

So--was it indeed Lars Rasmussen? I owe him pretty big.

Thanks,

Steve

It definitely has, from the original site. I don't know enough Swedish to even navigate the site...might still be there but my link doesn't work! ( LOS LIIIINKS laughing6-hehe )

Will do!

Most Swedes are not clever enough either but they do it some how. It's a wonder! laughing6-hehe laughing6-hehe laughing6-hehe

I've already said I like that instrument! I've always thought stringed instruments should have at least 6 strings to sound decent but I really like that one. Great player too!

+1, Arnt! Sounds fabulous. Of course, Andreas isn't too shabby a player!

We call it a guitar bouzouki, because it is built pretty much like a standard steel string guitar, but with 4 pairs of strings that are tuned in 5ths, just like a 'zouk (and mandolins, fiddles, cellos and on and on). But, you can call it a crazy instrument if you want! pfft

This song is absolutely beautiful!
What is she singing about?
Is it a Christmas song? I isolated the word "Bethlehem" in there, but I wasn't sure.

Really nice.

Florentin, my Swedish is as poor as yours--evidently.
But the purpose of these musicians, as I understand it, is to sing traditional Swedish (& other sources?) Christmas folk tunes. They have separate musical careers, and then come together to do these concerts.
We need Arnt or Lars to translate for us!
Glad you liked it.

Steve

Here's another from Esbjorn.

It's called "The Last Waltz". It's about a man who has a last night with his girlfriend at a dance and after they part, she's dies in a bizarre helicopter crash!

..... well.... I don't speak Swedish ... well .... at all... that's my translation, such as it is!

Beautiful song though.

Thanks for the kind words! Esbjörn is a great musician and Im so thankful that he is playing a guitar of mine. These clips are from 'jul i folkton' (folk music christmas) and it is indeed a collection of some of swedens finest musicians in the genre, that gets together for a christmas tour every winter. They play traditional swedish folktunes, in their own personal way. Another guy to look up from this group is Roger Tallroth (normally palying with Väsen).

Here is a pic of the rear end of Esbjörns guitar(which is the guitar in the clip 'Malåberg'):

If you are interested in Esbjörns music you should really look up the album he made with Johan Hedin, who is playing 'nyckelharpa'.

As far as swedish translations... let me work on that!

I just wanted to know what she's singing about.

Lars, I really like that kind of finish treatment on the soundboard. That fading..kind of burst. Could you give a brake down on how you do it? Tasteful!

I DL'd Vittskövlevisan from Amazon some time ago. They have many of Hazelius' songs available. It's the best I have, though like yourself, I still prefer the TV Video.
