Hey check this out, I threw some paste wax on my buffer and buffed this fretboard, look how shiny the frets are now (I just refretted it as well.) All the frets are mirror shiny now, including the ends! I'm sure many have done this, I just thought it was cool..
No flash, fluorescent lights.

Same buffer used for finish? Leaves wheel black. DAMHIK I use a small wheel in my hand drill for this.

Yup, I use a separate (now black!) buffing wheel for it, and it's the last step before removing the masking tape for me as well. There may be some compound residue left on the frets that I remove with a paper towel, before the tape comes off, and I wipe on a nice coat Howard's Feed N Wax as the final step.

Dremel tool with mini -buff wheel and red or green rouge..Yup leaves a black grunge.

Ditto for me.... can't beat that final polish.
I also have a little slide-out motor with a buff mounted for only ebony (or fretted ebony as a final pass) so blackened wheel doesn't matter. (Mezerna works great on ebony, if you sand it far enough...I take mine to 2000)

I actually used an orbital buffer, 'cuz the guy said he wanted it done that way with the paste wax, for the wood, bt the frets shined up as well. Normally I just use Mother's on the frets, but these ways are a LOT shinier. Unfortunately I don't have a buffing wheel setup in my workshop, but perhaps I should find a small one for doing fretboards specifically. I could also polish guitar bridges with it.
