Hey,

One of my build requires that I use a bridge .43 thick. All of my bridge blanks are around that thick, but after fit the bridge to the top and radius the top of the bridge I fall short. I am speaking of the dalbergia maritima(crazy purple stuff). There is a picture below of the coloring I am looking for of course beggars can't be choosers so if you have something that you think would be acceptable please pm me. Thank you so much for looking. Also if you have a bridge blank that is that thick but don't want to give it up because it may mess up your fingerboard bridge combo. I do have more bridge blanks that are a little thinner and I would be willing to resupply your loss with a thinner bridge blank plus I will pay shipping for both parties.

I got a few REALLY purple d. Maritima headplates from Gilmer not too long ago. They are really cool, perhaps if you call them they might have a suitable piece.

Good luck, that is some CRAZY colorful wood.

Not of much help, but Gilmer is the only dealer i know that sells the stuff - but last time i checked, they had only a few blanks. Can“t compare measures, as your crazy fractional imperial system messes my little metric grey cells every time.

anyway,
good luck.

Gilmer is definitely one of the few sources I found on the interwebs that had the stuff in stock, but their website states that they only accept 100$ minimun orders. Their minimum order amount definitely makes my bridge blank pretty costly. Hopefully someone on olf has this stuff. For those who use the more friendly metric system .43=roughly 11 mm ;) Now that I think of it I do have a piece of material that is that thickness but it is not quarter sawn. Would a flat sawn bridge be a horrible idea?

I use this wood a lot and I love it! I first learned about it from Mario.

I've purchased some from Gilmer, but usually get it from Exotic Woods

It won't stay that purple for long. Almost all the ones I have used have oxidized to almost pure black.

Alternate might be to take what you have....... slice it slightly above the bottom..... laminate several thin strips of contrasting color material to raise the bridge to required height. You may want to slightly taper from the bottom to the top to help with the design and look.... ( if your bridge is not square for sawing...... use double sided tape or a small amout of hot glue to attach to a carriage board to do the slicing...... hot glue releases easily with a commercial hot dryer....then scrape residue.)
