Getting ready to do my neck laminate tomorrow, and want to make sure I have the process down for sealing the maple to avoid staining. The laminate will be

cuban mahogany|| black fiber || curly maple || black fiber || cocobolo || black fiber || curly maple || black fiber || cuban mahogany

Filippo informed me that the cocobolo will stain the curly maple orange, and I want to avoid that. So, do I mill the wood to the proper dimensions, and then seal the edge of the maple that will be exposed with sealcoat? If I get sealcoat on the edge that does get glue, do I need to sand that down to get a proper joint?

To simply glue up a necklam you dont need to seal anything .. just glue it up - besides, you have a black piece between the maple and anything else anyway. When you may get some bleeding is when you do the finishing.
