I have raised the subject of Siminoffs tap tuning method before & this time I am wondering again if someone on this forum has sucessfully used it, either with a strobe or Petersons' strobo soft, software?

I bought a copy of strobosoft a few years ago to use in top tuning but now mostly use Audacity which is free and actually works much better in my opinion. The strobosoft program decides which peak to display and often will display different values on each tap, with Audacity you see the FFT of the taps and can decide on which peak to use. It will also allow you to store the file for later reference.

Fred,
Can you tell me how you use it exactly.
I built the fixture to hold the top but I am getting all my braces to sound virtually the same.
I need more of a step to step guide. Are you calibrating to A = 431?

Fred, also, what do you use for a mic?

I use the mic on my laptop. There is plenty of information on tap tuning that can be searched on this forum. Also check the Left Brain Luthier group on Yahoo groups. This is a very interesting topic and there are many opinions.

I tried Strobsoft but I never could get used to the read out. The little blocks never seemed to calm down and I could never get the guitar in tune. I use a real strobe tuner in the shop (Peterson 450) where there are actual wheels that turn and it works much better. Just my experience.

I only used it for tap tuning, to much going on in the laptop with other tasks running to make it accurate for tuning or setting intonation.
