I know they made some smaller body slotted headstock Gibson in the early 1900 but did they ever make some of the more modern big body acoustic with them? Has anyone built a Gibson J-45 style or similar with a slotted headstock? I have the Michael Collins J-45 plans and was just wondering what it could look like. I always liked slotted head stocks. I have searched google trying to find a J-45 style with this feature but couldn't. So if any you have pics of a J-45 style with it please post a pic if you can....Mike

AFAIK, Gibson never used slotted headstocks, except on their nylon string classicals.
The J-45 body shape is similar to the Martin 12-fret dreadnought, which normally comes with a slotted headstock.

That's essentially this guitar, but this has a 12 fret neck.

Slotheads only appeared on a few archtops in the early 1900's; never a flat top. check out these sites from Robert Corwin. http://www.earlygibson.com/ http://www.oldgibson.com/
