So I'm thinking about the possibility of making my own wooden pickguard for my current build out of Wenge vs going with a standard plastic pickguard. I have a couple of questions after reviewing some of the articles in the forums here :

1. Would the adhesive sheet that Stew Mac sells to adhere pickguards be sufficient to attach the wenge pick guard?
2. How do wooden pickguards stand up over time? Does the finish take a real beating that would detract from the overall look of the guitar?

Rob

I recently finished, and applied Bird's Eye Maple tap plates on a customer's flamenco guitar. He was very happy with the result. Maple has very small pores, so pore fill was not an issue. Wenge is the opposite extreme. If your pore fill is at least as hard as the wood, that won't be a problem. I finished the tap plates with cyanoacrylate glue. I don't want to do that again. I think cyanoacrylate is as hard as any finish--maybe harder. Yes, the LMI double stick sheet will work fine. Make sure the surface is flat, and dust-free.
