A historical question. Building using Soleras with certain areas "domed" goes back a long way but the method of using two radiused sanding dishes - one for the top and one for the back - to shape braces and the sides for fitting the top and back seems to be a much more modern process. Does anyone know when this first appeared and who were the pioneering maker(s)?

Go Bars go back to Harpsichord making, so not that new in terms of musical instruments.
Solera probably dates to around Torres time, although I'm not sure we have any actual examples that go back that far. I suppose the radius dish is an adaption of the Solera.

There's also the Spanish windlass or Spanish tourniquet, which I believe are the same thing, just different names. And was LMI the first to use sailboat clam cleats on them?
