I am doing some restoration work and was wondering what the best glue would be to use to replace some bindings on a 50's guitar? I am using new celluloid if that matters. Thanks in advance.

I've had good luck with the stuff from Stewmac. Can't remember the name, red tube, black letters...

Duco cement, used it replacing some binding on a vintage banjo.

Weld-on? I 've used it, but I prefer Duco.

I recently read an article that said the best glue for celluloid to wood is celluloid scraps dissolved in a little acetone to the consistency of white glue.

Yup. Duco.
Used to be in a green tube.

Thanks, I was planning on duco, buy then I got a e mail from stew Mac the other day and in the video Dan Erlewine was doing a similar job and did it with thinned and warmed liquid hide. That got me to wondering.

I think in the old days they used just acetone as it melted in the wood. All glues mentioned work find what you like.
put me down for duco.

A tip for miters, if you have any: Cut them really tight, tape them up dry, and "inject" acetone into the joint with a pipette. As with the melted binding goo glue method, this will weld the miter shut, for a clean, homogeneous look. It also avoids dye seeping into the joint, if you are going to add any, which will happen unless the joint is solid. Its a good way to ruin an otherwise nice looking joint.
