After all these years of building and repair, I built or restored several guitars "just for me." I am not a player (can do maybe 5 or 6 songs) so made or restored several so I could take lessons.

So the 10 or so I made and maybe that many restored where sold or otherwise disposed of in my other works. So, I suddenly decide to stop building and then realized I forgot the personal guitar thing. Not really a problem, but ironically, now I need to buy a kit (from my friend John) so I can do that, I hope and feel fortunate some in the area will allow me to do a couple of things like binding channels.

I am keeping a set of chisels, planes, setup and other tools for small repairs I may take up to pay for fly tying stuff and pay off my golf bets I am bound to lose on a daily basis. Plus, I love lutherie and particularly repair and setup stuff. Also, going to build a few Mt. Dulcimers for family friends and folks in my other works. Also going to fix up garage sale and eBay project guitars for my other thing as time permits.

But one would think at the end of the day, a builder would have at least one guitar to learn to play. Even badly. But talking to a few friends, this may not be an unusual thing. Just seems funny. But now will have the time to learn to be the next Chet, Tommy, etc.

Stan, if you ever need any builder specific tools or wood to build that guitar for yourself, I'd be happy to offer you anything I have in my shop that will help you complete your guitar. I'm in St.Louis, but I'm frequently down in your area fishing with my sons. If you ever need anything, just let me know and I can bring it with me on our next fishing trip your way. Afterall, every man living in the Ozarks should have at least one guitar to pick on every now and again!!! Brad O'Neal
