Finally got the chance to put the vocals onto this song. This is me singing one of my favourite Mike McCarthy songs, Closer to Thee. The guitar being played (by Mike) is one of my most recent guitar builds, Tasmanian Blackwood back and sides, Bunya Pine top, QLD Maple Neck, Mulga fretboard and bridge. Guitar was recorded using the LR Baggs Active iBeam pickup and a tiny bit of reverb in GarageBand.

Nice one Martin- all round, build and performance!

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

The guitar sounds very nice indeed, as do the vocals. I wish I could sing...

The guitar and vocals both sound very nice. I like that song.

Wonderful tone on that guitar...and recorded well too.

Thanks for all the lovely comments. I am almost finished the next guitar and will hopefully get a good recording of it. It will have the LR Baggs Stage Anthem Pro pickup in it and I am keen to see how it performs.
