I'm in planning phase for a couple of J 45 -like guitars. It seems that Gibson had at least 3 bridge styles for this instrument over the years and I know a couple of you have done quite a bit of repair work on these. So I'd like to know if you favor one style over the other and why.
One is a straight, 1" bridge with typical wings, the second looks like a typical bridge but the belly is on the soundhole side, and the third is the typical belly type bridge (if I'm using that term correctly).
I prefer the looks of the straight, 1" bridge, but wonder if the smaller footprint and mass are a concern. It will be a 14 fret with 24.7" scale length ( I have plans that Michael Collins drew).

I'm building a 13 fret Nick Lucas and plan on using the smaller bridge, mine will be a 24.750 scale

Beth: If well glued the small narrow bridge is not a problem. I like the low mass which helps to improve responsiveness.
