I have a quite nicely figured Bubinga B & S set (with sapwood), but unfortunately the back plates were poorly resawn (this was settled amicably with the seller).
After a little work with the drum sander, it looks like 2.0 mm (0.080 inches) finished thickness is realistically about the best I could get out of one of these back plates.
I have been drawn towards either a Classical or an Antes Parlor for my next build anyway, and have a choice of redwood, Caucasian spruce (Picea Orientalis) and (chocolate) WRC tops suitable sized for smaller builds.
So, for this back set, which would be your choice, Classical, Parlour, or scrap box?
And if it's usable, what top would you pair it with?

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

X may be good here.
Use a thick(stiff) overlay on the inside glue joint.
And use it for whatever want too.
