Greetings
I picked up a 1953 Epiphone Triumph Regent for a good price at Gruhn's scratch-n-dent sale. Among other things it needs back binding. Channels are clean and I have the correct thickness of white BWB in both celluloid and ABS. It fits well. The guitar finish is not all that bad. I kind of have a plan but was looking for thoughts on gluing techniques so as to minimize finish damage and tinting afterwards to match the aged color of the original binding.

If it is, I thought it was gorgeous.
I lowballed a bid on it, in case no one wanted to rebind it - no go, of course.

Beautiful guitar, from what I can see. I don't know how to advise you on the binding. Do you have the heel cap? It is missing in your photo. I love these vintage archtops. I'll be eager to see your outcome. Great find, I say!

Careful application of the glue is a must on these jobs. A good coat of furniture wax about a half inch out from the ledges will prevent a lot of ooze damage, just make sure your tape is long enough to span the wax and that you do not get any wax in the channels. Celluloid can be aged easily with a good dye type stain like solar lux .ABS will need taken care of with a tinted lacquer and airbrush. Either way you will need to seal the new bindings into the existing finish with a few coats of lacquer so minor glue damage can be scraped away and will disappear.

Thanks guys. I laminated a 20w and 20b together for the purfling and will use. 60w for the binding so it will go on in two layers.
Todd are you saying use LMI white for the purfling to wood joint and Acetone for the binding to purfling joint?
