I've just got my first bandsaw - a 10'' bench top one - and I need to get some new blades for it but I don't really know what I need. I certainly won't be resawing guitar sets on there (It's only 3/4hp), so I just need a good blade for general purpose work and maybe another for some light resawing, such as cutting small pieces of veneer or something. Talk with Ian at tuffsaws, he's fine and very helpful and he'll advise you on the best blade for your needs.

I'm no pro by any stretch so take the advisable grain of salt... I myself have a 10" saw and use mostly a 3/8" 6 tpi blade for most of the work. A 10 (or 14) tpi blade will leave a smoother finish but will make the saw struggle and chip clearance is an issue.

I also have a 1/4" blade I thought I'd use for curves but the 3/8 does the trick.

Oh, and for light resawing maybe a 3-4 varitooth 1/2" blade will suit your saw nicely.

I have a 10" bandsaw too, and I rarely ever put anything but a 1/4" blade on it. I have others, but never use them. I buy 6 tpi and 10 tpi wood blades and for fine cutting I use 10 - 14 tpi and 14 - 18 tpi bi-metal blades. The other thing I bought that is the best $85 I've ever spent is the Carter guide with the slot in the bearing. Eliminates drift and all other guides, and reduces blade changes to a few minutes vs 20 or 30 minutes fiddling with guide bearings.

Is it a 2 wheel or 3 wheel bandsaw?

One reason I ditched 10" bandsaw was because they love to break blades... even a normal .025" 1/4" blade would break after 5 minutes on a 2 wheel bandsaw, even faster on a 3 wheel. It had to take special (like woodslicer thickness) blades that would dull as soon as you got the guides adjusted... I had a 1/4" Diemaster on the saw for about 6 months, then it snapped before it was dull. The Diemaster was more flexible than the carbon steel blade but even then it eventually work hardened on a 10" wheel.
