So last time I did this I glued it to the binding and then bend them together. Must have been too hot for too long because they came unglued & de-lamanated. The maple was burned and I had to scrap the purfling and make my own. I have some more purfling to use up that I haven't touched since then but I don't want to ruin it. I have a bending machine and a pipe bender. What's the best way to do this without having similar results as last time?

I'm thinking about bending them all bound together like this. Maybe easier if I cut them in half first.

These are for the bottom of the top binding and top of the bottom binding. The grain orientation seems to be the issue. Are the thinner ones that LMI sells just half of these things or is the grain oriented in a way that makes bending easier?

I bend them with the binding. I stack the purfling like you have them. I then put binding stacked on either side and tape it all taped together. I do not let the temperature get much above 270 degrees. That has worked good for me.

Joey: Sorry, but I don't follow your photo. Looks like you have a dozen pieces of binding with perf. attached taped together.....?????
I glue purf to binding then tape up two pieces to make a set. The purf is back to back and this helps with delamination and collapse of the purf. I generally bend 4 sets at a time on a bending form with blanket. Not sure of the temp. Don't measure but it's not real hot.

I glue the purfs to the binding as well. Put all four in a patty and bend with one of the guitars sides....

I'm using a blanket bender system...

I'm going to try what some other suggested. Last time I glued them to some curly maple and did them too hot I think. But I ruined them so I was hesitant to try that way again. I thinned thinned ebony much more than the maple this time and got it to bend at 205 degrees. So I'm going to try to glue them to bindings and bend with that temp. Should they be wetted or will the steam release the glue?

Since mine are bent with the sides, they get wetted lightly.

I too bend mine (binding with purling) with the sides and use wetted kraft paper against the sides as part of my sandwich. I've had no issue to date.
