After a little trouble shooting I took apart the switch and found this...I've emailed the company complaining about the Shyt wiring and that I'm lucky the shop didn't burn down. However, if I hard wire (bypass the switch) will the pressure kill still work when it reaches the set threshold? Or is it more like setting a bomb in my shop if not monitored while pressure builds?

My take is that this is just the on- off switch. If it's on the compressor regulator works and it cuts out at the set threshold. SO hard wiring it should only make it ON- all the time, unless unplugged. Which case the pressure regulator should still work. After all this switch is merely a connection to complete the circuit- 4 wires, 4 contacts. One of the contacts is fouled, that's it. If anyone can give me a reason not to hard wire it, please say so. Safety is important.

It's the pressure regulator switch. You can probably find a universal replacement with a google search. About $25. Tim

Some compressor packages have redundant systems, some don't. It is usually based on the cost of the unit and whether or not the company has had to pay off after someone bypassed a safety device and the thing blew up.

In a past life, I worked on air compressor design, and part of my job was to analyze failures. Compressors, tanks, and systems are bombs. Never bypass a safety feature. By a new switch, if necessary buy a new regulator. But don't hard wire it.
