I was thicknessing a cocobolo back today and the joint separated on one side of the sandwiched backstrip about half the way. I glued with LMI white glue after wiping with acetone. This was the recommendation on LMI's website and I have since read several threads about the acetone actually bringing more oil to the surface. The back is sanded to about .095". What should I do?

I like to go from the shooting board to glue that sucker up. I use hhg exclusively, don't know anything about LMI white.

Press it back together and use CA ... in future, don't wipe .. unless you want to keep wiping until no more colour comes out, you have to get rid of all the resins the acetone is leaching out ... me, I don't bother, I just plane the joint, and then use fish glue

same as above , but used titebond , 319 hhg , or fish

Make sure the coco is fully acclimated to your shop. I only had a separation on wood that I had not held long enough. I have had no problems with coco seam separation on wood that I have had stored for several months or years before using.
