Hey everyone,

I recently shot a video of an inlay demonstration for the customer of the guitar I was working on. I thought others might enjoy seeing it as well. Actually time to do the inlay took a little under 1 hour.

Josh, thanks for the demo! Is that your guitar playing as the background music?

And that's how it's done. Nice job. What is the fretboard made of? I like it.

And that's also how it'd look if Clark Kent takes up Lutherie in the next Superman film!

Josh, did you score around or just a pencil line? That's where I need the most improvement.
Thanks for sharing the video!

Josh,
Nice job! I like the maple leafs. Are they made in shop or do you have a supplier?

Background music is by Kenn Fox, playing one of my GA guitars.

Fretboard is Macassar ebony.

In this case I just used a very fine pencil to trace the outline. It works well as long as you don't accidentally rub the pencil mark off. I will occasionally use an x-acto knife and then fill the scribe line with chalk. Mark Kett (pearlinlays.com) recommended the fine pencil to me when I was jus starting out as a builder. He said that if you trace around the part closely and then rout the pencil mark away you end up with a pocket that is just about the perfect size. I'm not a great inlay artist like Mark, but the pencil seams to work well.

The pattern was bought from Andy Depaule. The time savings in purchasing the pre-cut design was well worth a few extra $.

Bellow is the finished guitar.
