I want to tape together a lot of the loose boards of walnut, sycamore, sycamore, rosewood etc. Which tape have you found that works best . ? I /m closing down my shop , and will be moving , so the boards will be loaded onto a truck. Where can I buy the tape ?? thanks

I would use the glass-fiber packing tape from Staples or Office Depot. Second choice would be Duct Tape (the handyman's secret weapon). Duct tape may require removing adhesive with mineral spirits when it gets unpacked. Get the cloth based duct-tape, it resists breaking better.

I've done a lot of moving and I use the plastic stretch wrap. It doesn't stick to the wood and it is great for wrapping up odd bundles of wood pieces as well as larger stacks. I also wrap it around tools to make sure adjusting handles and such don't come loose and get lost during shipping.

Thanks everyone got 2 rolls of cloth duct tape . I will try the duck style tape from amazon

No way would you want to use duct tape. Unless you want to spend a bunch of time cleaning of all the adhesive. Stretch plastic stuff is the way to go.

One somewhat on-topic point: the variety of tape called, in the US, "gaffer tape" is a lot like regular duct tape but does not leave a sticky residue.

An impractical but interesting point is that the tape was originally called "duck tape," perhaps because it was waterproof, or because of the familiarity of the name, which had been used for tape made out of cotton duck, a type of canvas. Typical modern duct tape is useful for a lot of purposes, but not for taping ducts: the adhesive softens and it lacks various required characteristics.

Ah, I always assumed "duck" was just a modern mispronounciation or ignorance of "duct"...

Stretch plastic. You can get it most places including Home depot. No no no on any sticky tape

But, if you do use sticky tape cut some strips of paper and put that under the tape.

Anyway that's my nickels worth. Use to offer it for two cents but with inflation and all......

I use the stretch plastic in the shop all the time for bundling parts together. Works great. I saw some at a Dollar Store for a couple of bucks a roll.

Finally got some eco -recycled greenie plastic tape stuff from homeless depot .Seems to work well for bundling thin tonewood.But I think I will get the duck heavier plastic tape from amazon for the 1in boards. Duct tape from the $ store has it/s uses in luthiery. Thanks everyone.

When I worked at a warehouse we had big rolls of plastic wrap. Would hold pallets of literally thousands of pounds of weight together. I would recommend if you need to move anything that has to be bound.

If all you have is duck tape, wrap a layer around with the adhesive side out. Then wrap tightly around a few times with the adhesive side in over that - no stickies.

I recently moved and used regular packing tape as I had a lot of it going on. Worked fine although I'm sure there are better tapes for the purpose. Didn't have any bundles come apart or any appreciable adhesive to clean up.
