Last week on TLB there was a little post about bridge design:

This week there is an interview with a very gifted amateur maker from Germany - Leonhard Augenstein. He's come up with a very interesting bridge design.

Take a look, what do you think?

My initial knee jerk reaction is that it's adding a ton of mass which is supposed to be bad. But after reading the interview and realizing that the bridge is also working as a brace, this opens more design possibilities.

I'm not in love with the aesthetic but maybe more refinement will help, sort of looks like a bib. Remember those tuxedo T-shirts from the 80's?

Without hearing it or playing it we can only comment on the aesthetics. I like the look of the partly open one, and also the one with the small inlay flower. That one saams to have the bridge as a direct continuation of the fingerboard below the soundhole. For some reason the other one doesn't appeal to me, and I kind of agree with Kevin's bib comment. Somehow, that one doesn't look to be integrated with the fingerboard as effectively. I think it might be because the fingerboard is bound and the bridge is not - which disconnects them from each other. I wonder whether a bound fingerboard and bridge would look good, by reinforcing the appearance of them being the same entity.
Well done Leonhard for coming up with a genuinely new idea and a fresh look. The rest of the construction on those guitars looks to be superb!
