Hi All

I have been using Zpoxy for pore filling but have heard of good result from those of you who use West system 105 (resin) and 207 (hardener). So I think I'll give it a try. Same application as Zpoxy or different method? Do you dilute the final coat with alcohol? Any help would be appreciated - Mike

I switched to it from Zpoxy and find it excellent. I mix it by weight on a gram scale as it is less forgiving on ratio than Zpoxy. It does not put an amber tone to the wood so I find sand through issues are less noticable on recoating. The only thing I find a bit of a drag is it cures slower than Zpoxy, I could sand the Z after 8 to 12 hours and the West needs a full 24 hours. They have the thickener available to add but I use it without, on real large pores I will use an extra application if needed.

Also West is used or has been used by at least two pro finishers that I know and they liked it too.

You can thin it as well just like with Z-Poxy "finishing resin" (Z-Poxy also makes epoxy glue but the "finishing resin" is what we like for pore filling from Pacer, the Z-Poxy people).

Either does a great job.

Please also note that epoxies can be sensitizers and we have had at least one bad reaction on this forum to epoxy use for pore filling in the past. Wear protective gloves, ventilate, etc.

I've always used the credit card.
They work great for me.
Never thought about the roller, but I think you want to get as thin a coat as you can so I would follow a roller with a card.

Michael if you can find my toot on epoxy pore filling in the toot section I make a big deal out of how epoxy should not be "painted" on but instead "mashed" into the pores with downward pressure from someone else's credit card....

One pro finsher that I know uses foam brushes and that works well for him.

The confusion when using cards is the word "squeegee" (not sure if I spelled that right and my shop computer does not spell check...). So one tends to believe that the card is to remove the excess which is can and is used for too. But it's also used with proper technique to mash the epoxy into the pores.

Coat one generally is to completely wet the pore bottoms so that coat two will stick in the pores. Coat two does the heavy lifting so-to-speak and often it's the case that this is all I need to do, two coats. I've been thickening coat two wiht microballons and that helps too.
