I searched the forum for recent posts on this stuff. Curious if anyone is still using it and how its holding up.

Not hard enough, IMO, though I gave up after early impressions and did not pursue vigorous analysis.

I tried it and didn't like the way it went on. Probably has as much to do with my inexperience with water asked finishes as the product itself. It leveled itself. Erg nicely but doing the curved sides was annoying. I ended up taking it off and going back to FP.

I did two. Also thought it was not hard enough. One of them still has the Vermont Coatings finish on it after a year and seems to be fine although it doesn't get played much. The other I stripped and refinished in nitro.

Same report here, I don't like it, though I didn't test it on a guitar, but on several other projects. I think it is a good general purpose coating.
I've been disappointed too many times with early reports of "this is what we have been waiting for" to test a new product on a guitar.
I feel that this finish would be detrimental to the sound of my guitars.

That's unfortunate I was looking for something that wouldn't kill my lungs and this company is relatively local to me on the other side of Lake Champlain. I get really sick after using any lacquer finish even with proper air ventilation and a charcoal filter mask. Any suggestions?

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

If you want water-based EM6000 is pretty good.

I worked with it for a time. Did not like it in the end. I have one guitar out there being played professionally...with this finish, and it needs some finish repair, I'm told. I'm doing the Target EM 6000 now....and about to try the EM 9000 soon. I'm happy so far.

I still know a few folks who still love KTM-SV, after several years.

KTM-SV worked for me where ktm9 failed due to blistering from body chemicals.

Yeah looks like I'll give the em6000 a try seeing its low VOC.
