Works like a charm and I never would have come up with that on my own.

And, using a safety planer to do the initial profiling of the neck shaft (Ed Bond).

Hey Danny, you don't have to list them all - how about a few nuggets?
My favorite from last year was to remove one of the wheels when buffing.... funny how that other wheel sometimes gets in the way....
One more - wet-sanding waterborne finishes with mineral oil instead of H2O... (actually, i use Old English lemon oil - it is a bit lighter than straight mineral oil - better aroma too...)

When you begin to get frustrated, STOP!!! Take a day (or longer) to step back, calm down, and think it through.

One that comes to mind is keeping sanding paper in a container of water. For wet sanding it is far less prone to clog. It keeps for a couple of months in water.

Another would be not using slotted bridge pins. That whole concept just makes so much sense.

The time people like Hesh, John Hall, Todd Stock have put into toots, for that I am very grateful. Why I think I'd still be using stone tools it it weren't for some of that info.

I've learned a ton on doing dyed bursts from Haans Brentrup, who in MHO can bring out the best in a piece of Maple.

I'm sure some others will come to me.

Masking the fretboard for fretmills. Other uses continue to show themselves. Leaves no residue.

Yep. One of the best things that's happened to my work is admitting when I'm mentally fatigued.

Along the same lines, an older friend wrote this when I was venting about some delays with my current project: "Remember, James, you have all the time in the world." I enjoy the process; I don't need to be in a rush.

James, I botched a bass neck by letting my mind get ahead of what I was doing. That taught me a huge lesson in paying attention and slowing down.

Here's one I got from John Arnold: to counter the wedging effect of fret tangs resulting in high frets in the middle of the fret board, make a full length caul for glueing the fret board with about .035"relief from the 5th fret to the nut. Press the frets in with a vice before carving the neck and your frets will come out near perfect.

Make the parts really fit and use clamps gently. Don't glue stress into a guitar.

I'm just sanding out a finish and another one came to me. Put your wet sanding paper in a container of water a few hours before you start sanding or until it has fully absorbed water. It makes the paper much less prone to clogging and will keep for months in the water. I think I use about half the paper I use to and saves a lot of time.

Seeing as I had no guitar building experience, the list of tips is almost endless, but I think DannyV's advice for me to get off my duff and start building, is tops! Thanks, Dan!
