It is with profound sadness that I share the news of the passing of our friend and luthier Beth Mayer.
Beth passed on to the next life on September 19th, after a final visit to her family in Wisconsin.
She will be missed by all for her warm and encouraging posts and her wisdom. I will miss her friendship.

Should you feel like you want to, I can give you contact for Beth's partner to express your condolences.

Beth was a perfect example of being a positive, valued contributor to this forum. I'm sure she was the same in all her other interactions every day. Sad to hear of her passing.

Beth often understated her skills and knowledge when it came to her own work, but never in her cheery support of us all. My deepest condolences to all who knew and loved her.

Sad to hear she lost her battle. My condolences to her partner, family and friends. They were lucky to have known her better than I. Her presence her was always positive.

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.
