I have a client who is asking about the possibility of fossilized ivory for the nut/saddle on his new guitar. Can anyone recommend a good source? I'm looking for pricing/availability info right now.

Thanks,

Josh

Try Rescue Pearl. She had some and because it will soon be banned in CA Joanne might be inspired to get rid of it.

Scrimshop.com for FWI and also some Mammoth.

I have not had much luck with the ivory coming out of Canada in the past. It was soft a punky when I was buying years ago, May be different now.

There used to be a guy from Russia who had a warehouse full of Mammoth ivory in L.A. He imported everything for small pieces to complete museum pieces. Everything I bought from him was high quality. The problem was one had to buy a minimum weight and it wasn't cheap. He had piles of boxes stacked in the corner of the warehouse with small to mid range pieces that you could pick from but only in a limited fashion. Forget his name now but you may be able to Google search for him. Most the ivory surfaced when they were going through the oil boom over there.

David Warther for smaller pieces if just looking for a nut/saddle
I have a bunch but not selling for export

Good Luck

Josh,

Bob Colosi http://www.guitarsaddles.com/products.asp

Everything you need for basic or more exotic nuts, saddles, and pins. Even cut to the size and shape that your customer wants.

You will get hammered by exchange rate, however, you get exactly what you want.
