In Robert obriens acoustic guitar building lessons he makes all his heel blocks 1 1/4" and my plans call for a 2" heel block but it all so shows a bolt on necking my plans. I'm doing a dovetail joint. The block I got from lmi for the heel block is 1 1/4". Is that ok or should I do 2" like the plans call for.

1 1/4" is fine. 2" would be larger than average.

Many makers including myself have gone to larger neck blocks and some (Martin) have a cantilevered shelf under the finger board extension. My hope is for a more stable upper bout and less chance for along the grain cracks.
