Here is the latest Luthier Tips du Jour video - In this video I talk about the pre-carved necks from LMI.
This video as well as all my other videos are available via my website, http://www.obrienguitars.com/videos , LMI's website or on youtube.
Enjoy!

Thanks Robbie. It appears like the heel actually curves inward than out again to the heel cap area. This is a nice touch that surprised me as I figured the neck would be carved in one step on a CNC machine with the bit coming down on the back of the neck. So in this configuration the bit could not go in to make that curve. Any idea on how they do it?

Pat

Thanks Pat. I have no idea how they do it. In fact the cnc thing is a mystery to me.

A 4 axis machine should be able to do that, yes?

Yes, a 4 axis machine could definitely do that but judging from the ridges around the heel, this is done with 3 or 4 setups (possibly more if we count the headstockrather than a 4 axis machine.
