I've looked at all the usual places and can't find anyone offering plans for a 00 sized guitar with 12 frets to the body. I would appreciate any help you can give. Thanks.

We have a couple 00 tracings from Mr. John Hall and from Mr. John Arnold, which gives us an accurate body outline and bracing locations. Beyond that, Martin construction is very straight forward, with lots of information available over on the UMGF in terms of photos and other details. Really, the only thing that a plan is needed for is the body shape and some idea of the bracing plan.

Just looking at the Georgia Luthier Supply plans, it appears as though they use a bracing system with two upper transverse braces versus Martin's single brace, support feet for transverse braces instead of pocketed linings, and a few other changes from what we'd expect to see in traditional Martin steel string practice.

I've got the Georgia Luthier Supplies 00 plans. My quick take on them:

Pros:
- Nicely drawn, to full size.
- All dimensions given in both imperial and metric
- Includes side profile template for pre-shaping sides before bending (nice timesaver)
- Suggested profile for a nice-looking venetian cutaway is shown, if one is desired.

Cons:
- Like a lot of their plans, there are these numerous sidebars/insert boxes all over the place explaining general errata like what kerfed linings are, how to close the box, what material to use for binding etc. These are probably useful for a first-time builder, but if you've already built a few they just cause annoyance by making a set of plans that could fit on one or two sheets instead take up five full sheets.
- Those A0 sheets are massive and a bit of a hassle to manage in the context of a workshop.
- As noted by Woodie G, the bracing scheme has some idiosyncratic design elements that you may or may not want to follow. A bit overbuilt to my eyes as well, but this is not uncommon with commercially available plans.

Thanks for all the replies. The Georgia Luthiers Supply is the only 12 fret set I could locate. As mentioned, they do look very busy. Also, I get mixed answers as to whether they are actually available. I liked the OLF plans I bought for the OM I just completed. The areas I feel I need the guidance of a blueprint are the side profiling and the fret scale template. This being my 3rd build I kind of want a backup assurance that I'm not going too far astray. I will change the bout dimensions some and as said, bracing is fairly standard. I do lean towards a lighter build. I almost hate to admit it but, part of the reason for the 00 size is a new case I just acquired that won't work where I intended it to. The main reason is this one is for my wife and the short scale will be a big help for her. I could probably do without the plans if I could persuade someone to trace a side profile template for me. I have to laugh because I just finished my last build less than a week ago and it is driving me nuts not going into the shop to work on a guitar every morning. I've got a 4 week window before back surgery, so I would like to get this one at least ready for finish befor then. No, I'm not hooked...

I built from the GLS 00 plan for my first guitar. I was grateful for the extra details and as mentioned the templates for most of the items made things easier. Digital delivery is a plus. I had them printed at Kinkos, I think it cost maybe 15 or 20 bucks? I built it exactly like the plan called out but as others have noted I'm sure it is over braced.

Brad, I took a copy of the StewMac 12 fret 000 plans and modified the body to fit the measurements of a double ought. Mine happens to be all mahogany so it would be basically what Martin would have called a 12 fret 00-17 back in the '30's. Very happy with the outcome.







Happens to fit perfectly in a standard TKL case - always worth checking before you start building

As I recall the specs on the GLS 14 fret are not quite right, maybe it was the lower width. Anyway I have a tracing of a 00-12 but not the sides. In spite of my reservations on the GLS plan I think it would be safe to use the side profile.
