I am placing an order with LMI and among the items will be two fine (as opposed to bold) herringbone rosettes.

I am assuming that either side of the rosette can be made the show side, so that the chevrons could point clockwise or anti-clockwise, according to choice ... is that assumption correct ?

Yes they are all sliced from a larger layup,

Thanks John, that is what I hoped. I want to use the small and large rosettes together, but will split them, with a "keystone " inlay at the bottom, so that they are symmetrical, ie the chevrons will point up towards the fretboard on both sides, like the purfling on a herringbone Martin.

That'll be pretty.

I hope so ... I have in the past owned a couple of Brook guitars (made in England) which are superb instruments in every respect, sonically, functionally and aesthetically, with the exception of their herringbone purfling, which they insisted (and still do insist) on fitting with the same orientation all the way round the guitar. It used to drive me crazy ...

I have done them like this and also did them in a quad . Be sure to take your time to bring the joint to a perfect mirrored reflection.
