Can anyone tell me how Martin does the right angle joint between the cutaway section and the section along the top of the guitar (under the neck heel)? I have looked at this many time and can not see a where it is jointed together. The grain seems to run though the joint.

Most likely it's mitred then.

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

I like to do them that way, just mitered for a good tight fit. Nice and clean IMO.

Mitered for a nice tight fit, and then GENTLY roll the edges.
It will look like all one piece IF done properly
