I will thank Hesh. Always seems the voice of reason and experience. I have learned much from his sage advice.

I'd like to thank Lance, for this forum.
Without the OLF, this resource would not exist at all.

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

When I first started this hobby back in 2001, I learned a ton from Kathy Matsushita's website. She also fielded some questions directly via email and always willing to help. So my thanks is to her.

So many inspiring builders here. There are a few who's advice seems irrefutable, with John Arnold being the king of the mountain.

I'd like to thank Lance and all the other forum members for their help and inspiration over the years. I'd especially like to thank Alan Carruth for just being the man!

Lance, thank you for the opportunity to meet so many wonderful people here on the forum. Hesh for your incredibly thorough and technically sound toots. Ken for your ability to keep us focused on what is essential to building - sound planning, and clear objectives.

thank you to all who have contributed to conversations, personally given me tips or tricks, and to those who have helped support the forum - this forum is key in my growth as a luthier.

Wow... there are just so many to thank....

Anyone who's posted a pic of their work to serve as inspiration...
Anyone who's answered my questions to keep me on the straight and narrow...
Anyone who's asked a question that I wasn't experienced enough to ask yet...
Anyone who's had a difference in opinion so I could think about different ways to tackle something...
Anyone who's taken the time to post an instructional video...
Anyone who's posted an example of a jig...
Anyone who's disagreed with me so I could feel better when proven right...
Anyone who's disagreed with me so I could be humbled and grow when proven wrong...
Anyone (Most of you) who have said to me... "Whoa there fella, slow down and think..." (not that I have, but good try.)
Anyone who's had anything to do with keeping this site up.
Anyone who's going to post ANYTHING so we can continue to learn.

Thank us all, every one...

There are so many people here at the OLF who have helped me along with their knowledge, answering my questions, and giving advice, and I'd like to thank them all today!
There is one person that has helped me on a more personal level, and that is Dan Vincent, aka DannyV.
We've struck up a friendship over the last few years, and Dan has helped me many times answering questions, giving advice and most of all, encouragement, by texts, emails or phone calls. I look forward some day to making the trek to Powell River, BC. to thank him personally!
If I'm lucky enough to win this nice B&S set, Lance, I'd appreciate it if you would send it to Danny.

Alex

Well there are so many to thank including several obvious ones; Lance for giving us this place, the many, many people who give so generously of their time to continually post helpful information each time it comes up (Mr. Carruth comes to mind). . . But, I want to give a long overdue thank you to wudwurker.

Years ago I was reading a couple of forums but basically doing this in a vacuum. I had no woodworking experience when I decided to start making instruments so I had been making things basically in secret for my own pleasure and learning as I went. I never really saw myself as making, or being able to make "real" instruments. Very few people actually ever saw what I was making. I just never really considered myself as someone who should be taking my efforts too seriously. Then Wud posted the idea of having a meet up in St. Louis (my own home town!), I had never met anyone face to face who made instruments. Eventually the first meeting of the Gateway Area Luthiers happened and I dredged up the courage to show up. I brought a wood top banjo but left it in the car because there was no way I was going to show my work to luthiers. Wud told me to go out and get it. It ended up being a really positive experience for me. I got over insecurities about my work and something clicked that made me realize that I too could make "real" instruments!

Talk amount yourselves. I'm feeling a little verklempt.

Thanks brother. It's a wonderfull community here. Glad you're part of it.

I'd have to thank Dan Minard. He use to hang out here but not so much any more. He was kind enough to walk me through my first build 7 or 8 years ago at his shop. I'm working on #29 right now and still finding new and more creative ways to make mistakes.

Have to thank Lance also. [:Y:] [:Y:]

I would thank William Cumpiano who wrote a great manual that got me through my first several guitars before I found other resources like the OLF. Back in the day when internet resources were just showing up that book gave me all the info I needed to get going. Then of course all my trolling on this site has helped immensely also.

First of all, I have to thank you Lance for hosting the OLF. Then I have to thank all the posters. I have learned so much from so many, that I don't want to single out one...
