Normally I thickness IRW sides to around 2mm for bending.
I'm looking to bend IRW sides in a side bender, then do a Venetian cutaway (the rounded one) by hand on a pipe bender
What should I thin it to for the cutaway part?

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

With EIR .075 - .078" will work fine spritz with water and use a backing slat. About 250 degees plus yields good results

With my side at 2 mm starting just above the waist curve to the end of the side, I thin to 1.8 mm (.07) with a scraper.
