I saw these on the rockler website (I am a woodcraft guy myself but rockler sells amazing stuff too) and the first thought I had was kerfing clamp, they're a clamp that is a new twist on a common clamp design. I was wondering if these would be good kerfing clamps.

I use something similar to the smaller ones but without the rubber banding that is used for clamping edging. As I install it, the kerfed lining is normally a bit proud of the sides so I would not want a clamp that pushes it down.

I thought that would potentially be a problem too. they do apparently have a multitude of uses according to rockler, I wonder what luthiers could get out of them, excluding kerfing.

Gluing linings is about all I use spring clamps for but others may have some ideas. On a guitar for an edging type glue joint I would probably use 3M 233 tape.

"this one time, at bandy clamp . . ."

I'm sorry. I couldn't resist.

I use linings that are rectangular in profile, not triangular. The smallest ratcheting bar clamps you can buy (4") work great for my linings, but the best clamps were from Jorgensen, so they are no longer available. I feel blessed to have bought a bunch when the company was still in business.

They do show a picture of them being used to glue linings in. They might work fine. Since I use a whole bunch and with them being $11.24 a pair I think I'll stick with what I use.

I'm with Joe. I'm going to save my hard earned clamp money for things that matter and keep using clothes pins and rubber bands for kerfing.

Folder clamps from Staples or any office supply or bamboo clothes plns with a rubber wrapped. One tenth the price --- works at the Martin factory, works for me.

Found these clothespins at Walmart, I don't think they were more than a few dollars for pack of 20 or so.

I use large plastic clothes pins with rubber bands. Cheap and glue doesn't stick to them.

Like Ken said - 25mm foldback clips from any office supplier work really well, and cost about the same as potato chips
