Anyone have any experience with these machines? They look pretty slick…

No experience, but it's nearly bigger than my shop.

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

Their ad makes it sound very nice but I’ve never seen one. It looks like it would take a similar footprint as my Oneida cyclone but not as tall so there would be room for shelves or a cabinet above it. The Harvey has a smaller motor with a smaller impeller and pulls less air, my cyclone pulls 1340 actual cfm (2940 max) through a 7” duct, the Harvey is 1100 cfm with a 6” duct.

Basically, I believe it is a somewhat less capable machine than my Oneida unit. The relatively low noise operation would be nice since my cyclone is very loud in my small shop.

Stumpy Nubs did a video on the unit saying that due to how the unit functioned, it pulled as much material as his 5hp cyclone. Maybe less air, but as much material. I like the idea of brain able to keep in under a bench…

Wow! I didn’t know about it until this thread. I went to their website and looked. Now I want one.

Luckily enough, seems Stumpy Nubs posted a 4 year update video just yesterday: https://youtu.be/Ko9qdjclIdA?feature=shared

Interesting that he compares it to the traditional cyclone

I’d be tempted if I didn’t already have a cyclone system that works very well.

Yeah I’ve go an Oneida 5hp with a two foot run to the biggest dust maker which is a bit overkill. Trying to decide if longer runs or multiple units would be a better idea…
