Learn about sand papers and how to create the flat level surface
I no longer use micro mesh my paper of choice is now all Assilex yes it isn't cheap but it lasts a long time and
is a much higher end finish paper
C buffing
I use the arbor with a 1/3 hp motor and dual action hand buffer/polisher
on the wheel I use Menzerna medium finish final finish

on the hand buffer ( do all my final with these ) Menzerna heavy but Groits correcting cream buffing and polish compounds then I use maquires 204 and 3M finese it and hand glaze

John Id like to purchase some Assilex paper which grits do you recommend?

John, I assume you are leveling any texture off the gun first before moving to assilex, is that correct?

I level with 600 grit Mirka paper to 90% level and then 800 grit yellow film from Eagle to flat. Then switch to Assilex from there. The reason being that Assilex is not designed to level. This is from the techs at Eagle.

It’s possible if the finish off the gun is impeccable going down to 600 is not needed. I am not there.

I only use the assilex it doesn't leave deep scratches like regular sandpaper
I did get some 360 grit that doesn't come with the started kit.
Don't hand sand , always use the sanding blocks and pads.
and you can wet sand with it. when it gets blocked you can blow it clean with compressed air

Would you mind to post your exact steps through the grits? The reason I ask is that someone will buy the starter pack you linked to in the other thread and think they will get the same results. The starter set starts at 600. Trying to go from off the gun to buff using just that starter kit would be tough sledding.

The techs at Eagle advised me to start with 400 or 600 grit paper, then switch to 800 grit yellow film before going to Assilex. That being said, that’s for UV cured poly, which is tough stuff, so may not be needed with all finishes.

I too love working with the Eagle products and just want to make sure any of the forum members following along have a good experience.

I start with 350 assilex
then just go through the grits
I use my wheel buffer and dual action
hand held
the key is to learn to read the surface. That takes experience
watch the surface its hard to say how to do it, as you learn to read the surface you will know when to go to the next grit
I can buff out a guitar in about 2 hr
