New versions of two online tools have recently been released on my website:
1. "G" Thang Acoustic Guitar Design Tool v1.3 - The latest version of "G" Thang includes the following new features:
- The Body Scale and Select Sized Body functions can now optionally scale the thicknesses of the top and back plates in addition to the body outline.
- A new scaling tool has been added which will calculate a scaling factor for the braces of an instrument that was designed by scaling an existing instrument up or down in size.
- An initialization menu has been added for all body parameters. Body parameter values can be initialized from presets or from a file.
"G" Thang is free for noncommercial use. Check it out here:
https://liutaiomottola.com/gthang/2. String-By-String String Set Calculator for Guitars and Similar Instruments v1.3 - This is a newly released web tool for designing string sets. It is intended for use by instrument designers. It requires nothing more than the note of an open string to calculate scale length, target string tension, and to provide a sample of suitable strings. As individual strings are selected they can be added to a string set. Output of the calculator is a simple spreadsheet file which can be used for string shopping. The calculator can also output a .gthang file for importing a string set design into "G" Thang.
The String-By-String String Set Calculator is free for noncommercial use. Check it out here:
https://liutaiomottola.com/formulae/strings1.3.htmNote that the String-By-String String Set Calculator for Guitars and Similar Instruments v1.3 does
not replace the Simple String Set Calculator that has been up on my site for a while and still remains available. That calculator is more geared to the needs of musicians wanting a string set to support an existing instrument. It requires the user to enter a scale length. That calculator is also free for noncommercial use. Check it out here:
