I’ve been going through some instruments that I inherited some time ago from my father who was a builder/luthier…

This D-41 is currently on my bench and at first I believed this to be figured mahogany or possibly sapele. But I’m second guessing myself. Any thoughts on what tonewood this is? Much appreciated.

I’d say you were correct with your first hunch. It certainly looks to be mahogany or possibly Sapele. Just my take from your photos.

I think you might be right. Here is a bindings lowdown. Looks very similar and I know he made a bass with a batch of bubinga he had…makes sense
