The EMC (equalisation moisture content of wood varies not only with the RH of its environment, but even for the same RH, it will vary with the temperature of that environment. It's not a huge difference, but it might make a difference with summer to winter temperature swings temperature swings, for example modal measurements

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

Good to know. Looks like 30F to 100F is equivalent to about a 5% RH difference.

What makes a bigger difference is the direction of acclimation. Equivalent to about 18% RH difference, i.e. going from tropical humidity down to 50% is equivalent to going from dry winter up to 68%, or going from winter up to 50% is equivalent to going from tropical down to 32%.

So wood is STILL trying to be alive long after getting cut down.
