I was doodling around thinking about building a 12-fret L-00 even though my #2 is languishing while I build #3 for a commission (translate $$). In trying to get a visual idea of the difference between a 12-fret and 14-fret, I overlaid a Martin Norman Blake 000-28, which is a 12-fret neck on a 14-fret body, with a conventional 14-fret 000 in Photoshop. Gave me an idea of how much different the bracing has to be, and how much less reach is needed for my cranky left shoulder. Thought it was interesting, thought I'd share.

Pat,

Shrink the photo a bit and decrease verticly and you have an ukulele. Think how much easier that would be on your shouder.

If the 12 Fret were on the original 12 Fret Body, they'd be about the same height at the Headstock.

I was just looking yesterday at the OOO-OM difference.
The ooo 12 fret body is 20 7/16 inches. The OM 14 fret body is 19 3/8 ".

I added the 000-28 12VS into the mix here, overlaid on the NB. Notice the different soundhole locations owing to 19 frets on the NB vs 20 on the 00-28VS. A factor for me might be that the waist of the NB is closer to the nut than on the 000-28VS.

I have a customer that thought up this combo (more than a year ago) prior to the NB coming out. This overlay helps visualize all the modifications that need to be made to a regular OM body. It's going to be a cutawy, also, to help access those frets up over the body. Build should start this summer. Should make for an interesting guitar...out of the norm, so to speak.
Hope it will go into an "OM" case so I don't have to search out a custom built case. Gonna have to check the headstock position closely for fit.

I have the Larrivee Pete Anderson model which is a 12-fret OM. It's really comfortable to play, since the nut is closer to the body you don't quite have to reach as far out to get to the open position chords. I also sort of like the "stubby" look of it since the overall length is shorter than a standard guitar.
