Michael, I set the #1 and #6 tuners 7/16" in from the edge. #3 and #4 are 1/2" in. A line is drawn connecting those two points, and that puts #2 and #5 at, what...15/32" each? (Sorry, I know that's not in 1/16" increments. But you don't even have to measure those...just draw a line from 1 to 3, and from 6 to 4.)
This is done to make a bit more room for the b and A string to miss those first tuner posts. And set at such a subtle difference, no one notices the difference in spacing. This all works out on my pehgead design, and YMMV. Sketch your design out first, for sure!
