I've never heard anything bad about HSD. Have you posted this question on the Shopbot forum? I recall reading someone's experience with that size and thinking that would be fine for guitars. The only question is can it accept a 1/2" shank bit.

Good idea on the Shopbot forum
I believe the 2.25 HP (1.5KW) version has a ER25 collet nose which should handle a 1/2" shank.

Heres another spindle company too. I spoke with once about a spindle and if I remember right they're prices were pretty good.

I'd be pretty confident that a 2-1/4 hp would way more than enough power assuming a continuous rating. I bet they have a power curve available for as it's a real spindle.

You can even squeeze an extra bit of love out of it as I'm pretty sure ER25 goes all the way to 5/8".
