I got your back:

I have been laboring over how much compensation to build into my saddle/bridge. I know nothing about mandos and a glued bridge needs to get me close. I have'nt been able to find good enough info on where to start so I will have to rig up a temporary tailpiece and locate the bridge that way. This means that I have to get around to designing the bridge; Tony's favorite activity! Pinless for loop end strings. . . I made the saddle slot 1/4 of an inch to allow me plenty of room to compensate the courses. I'm happy with my prototype so far but I fear I have not alloted the proper distance between paired strings. Is 0.1" center to center good for the pairs?

Sorry Tony, I can't post pictures to you thread, but at least there is some luthier content on this page. . .

Shoot for even spacing between pairs. If trying to maintain .0625" between strings in a course, .100" is ok for the low strings, use .0725" center for the high pair.

Tony, where is your free scrap burl supplier located? All flat and sanded to size. I didn't use it last time, so its free? I guess I don' t care. Build what you want.

If it makes you feel better I could add some bucks for the burl but at $9 for the original blank, this being the center of a guitar rosette that would be considered a cut off, thus scrap/ garbage, I don't think it has much value. But for you my friend, I will call it $5.00.

I got this walnut burl rosette blank from Oregonburls on eBay. The spalted maple came from Musical Forest two years ago. It was a headplate veneer and this was some of the remaining off cuts. Oregon burls sells rosette blanks from time to time and the ones I got were thick enough to re-saw (by hand) into two blanks. So technically, I paid $9.00 for one blank and got two blanks out of it, thus making one blank $4.50. Since the piece i used for the ukulele was from the center cut out of a blank I used on the black limba guitar, it is the scrap from a $4.50 blank, making the total value about $0.75. Add on the spalted maple scrap, also from a $10.00 head plate veneer (http://www.hvgb.net/~tonewood/acousticguitar.htm) it is about $0.50 worth of wood. I overshot with my previous estimate. The value of the two pieces is only $1.25.

Edited to add to my total:
I was at $54.54, add on the $1.25 for my not-quite-free-burl and I am now at: $55.79. I am probably going to buy a rattle can of nitro or two to finish the box. Faster than brushing because it will dry quicker. I hope.
