Had to replace a 15th fret after removing a neck as it was mangled during removal, but the frets were all at 0.8 mm. and the only wire I had of a similar width was 1.2mm high, so 1/3 of the height needed removing.
With a Fret Kisser from SM coming in at about $120 to UK with taxes, seemed a bit expensive to level one fret, the only one I've had to do in nearly 10 years.
Remembered a YouTube video using a prism and sandpaper so years ago, checked it out again and it worked great Using a 4" ($9) prism from amazon. 10 minute going through 80/120/320 grit, crowned and polished took another maybe 10, job done.
Any CA gets on the prism ( oops_sign ) comes off easily with a sharp chisel at a low angle, no marks on the crystal.

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.
