Ok the vise is green, I think it's the older Stewmac guitar repair vise with different handles and the jaw rotation is also older, but I can buy some cheap nuts/bolts from Stewmac to upgrade it. I think one of the first thing I need to do is to plane the wooden jaws with a slight inward slant so that the jaws will become parallel when tightened.

all in all I think its not a bad deal, for half the cost of what Stewmac charges and not having to pay the 200 dollar shipping fee too...

Except for the color, that looks just like mine. Mine's boring black. What do you mean about parallel faces? I have yet to get around to replacing the bolts with the SM hardware, so I just loosen those bolts a bit and the jaws swivel to line up themselves.

Gluing thick scraps of leather to the jaw faces protects your guitars and gives it good grip.

The lower part of the jaw face closes before the upper face, making it a little hard to clamp small pieces. Some vise have slanted face so that the jaws are parallel under pressure.

Ah yes. Now that you mention it, I think I had to do that as well. Still, it was a bargain for the price.

I am actually thinking to remove the hardwood jaws and plane the back so I don't have to touch the face... it's got a plastic liner on the jaw face that I prefer to not disturb.

And a little off topic, I have built a guitar with my two cherries chisel I got from Germany and have not needed to sharpen it. I used the 12mm and 26mm chisels for various operations. The other 12mm chisel I got in Taiwan required multiple sharpening to build my last guitar...

That's the exact same as the vise I got from Woodcraft here in the USA. Mine didn't need any adustments at all....works perfectly as-is. The rubbery jaw covers seem to do a great job of holding work (necks etc.).

These vises are made in Taiwan, at least that's what mine says on it.
