I am curious as to what is the concensus is on matching the same species for fingerboards, bridges and head plates? Is it taboo to mix or is it widely accepted. I only ask because I placed an order for some EIR Fingerboards and Bridges and they were currently out of the bridges and offered to send Madagascar Rosewood bridge blanks instead. Do any of you build with mixed species? Any of the Big Names do it?

don´t know about "big names" but in the classical world it is the norm, as ebony is preferred for fingerboards and it´s considered too heavy for a bridge-wood (these tend to be made of one of the rosewoods). In any case, Madagascar is one of my favorite bridge-woods - even if a tad brittle (in my short experience it´s more so than EIRW).

Function comes first in my book but I like the look of matching when practical. Fortunately there are plenty of good options. I tend to start with decision for the bridge.

Thanks Charlie! That was right what I was looking for. I must have missed that one.
