I would like to build my first nylon string guitar. Altough I am building a crossover-type, I will use a standard classical guitar plan and make some adjustments for the cutaway, a bolt-on neck and a smaller, radiused fingerboard.
My question is: how to choose the right plan? LMI for example sells 17 different classical guitar plans. Are there people on the forum who have used one of the plans, and made a recording of the guitar?
I don't mind buying a plan, but I found a few free ones too. This one for example: http://luthieramateur.free.fr/Plans/Gui ... Legeay.pdf

Any thoughts are appreciated!

Martijn,
This might not be the answer you were hoping to receive. You've stated that you don't mind buying plans, so I presume you have several. You must evaluate these and try to determine which would be the easiest and most rewarding for you to build first. Then you build that one, and then move on to the next one. And then the next. And so on. No one can tell you how to choose. These are personal choices. Be realistic with yourself, set your standards high, and choose the plan that you think would give you the most satisfaction and the fewest troubles while building. Be realistic with yourself about your tool skills. Then plunge in. Everyone on this forum did so at one time or another.

Thanks Patrick!
Actually I thought the main difference would be the bracing pattern. Do you consider some bracing patterns to be more difficult to build than others? At this moment I don't have any plans except from the free ones found on the internet. Shipping just one plan costs about $60, so I will order the plan at the same time as the wood. But as I am not able to judge if others are 'better' or 'worse', I might just use the Legeay plan mentioned in my previous post.
As I mainly play steel string, I am not planning to build a lot of nylon string guitars. Probably only this 'crossover' guitar and maybe one 'real' classical in the future.

It's a difficult decision, but maybe I should just choose one and build it like you say.
