Well, it does look like it is from the 60's and some kid sprayed it black with a can of Krylon.
It's an authentic look. What's up with the fretboard dots?
If it plays and sounds good, it's a winner.
Is the persimmon colored? We have Texas wild perssimon down here that I'd like to try for a fretboard. I assumed it was a pale white color. I have not sawed one down yet.

Dan , I am a child of the sixties, and wanted a funky gtr to practice with while camping/travelling,The black dots are ebony and the white ones maple.Probably had too much caffeine one morning and put the dots in the wrong position duh.The persimmon in Mo is mottled shades of gray with black and white streaks, I find it shrinks a lot , and is pretty unstable. I Should have let it dry at least 5 years instead of 1yr. I use it with nylon strings .Neck is 43mm at the nut action is 4mm at the 12 th fret on low E and 3mm for High E similiar to a classical gtr , but much easier and more fun to play.Yes I confess in a moment of lighheartedness went to wally world and bought krylon spray paint.

I like it as well. Does it have an x-brace or did you brace it like a classical?

At first, I thought you photoshoped your picture. The more I look at it the more I like it. I think Woody Guthrie had one just like it.

Count me in - I like it as well! Nobody will ever notice any buckle rash, and that pick guard looks stunning! You really thought outside the box, Ernie, so to speak!

Yes the top is a recycled shaved down x- braced Alvarez spruce top from 1970 from a friend in st louis, who got it from his uncle who worked for the former st . louis music. And yes I can get crazy and it only costs 1-2$ to go wild.Cheaper than a lot of other meaningless pursuits.

My decision not to stain my latest mahogany and spruce build is vindicated. I shall give it the merest glimpse of French Polish and ignore the know it all know nothings who ask if it is made out of sapele plywood.

I only have one question. Do you think it will survive? In my experience some people don't value what they haven't paid for and they value anything that isn't shiny even less.

Quote; Oh Booger. I didn't mean to do that.

At last!! The solution to all my finishing problems. [clap]

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.
