I got some more work done.
Bound the sound port:

So that is where I am now. The owner is trying to find a font he likes to make an inlay from. He wants his initials on the 12th fret.

What is that plastic container you've rigged to cover the inside of the guitar? How do you install and remove it? I need that trick!

Beth, that is the plastic cap sold at Lowes for their paint mixing cups. It is only the cap. I use crumpled newspaper under it to hold it up against the top. It works great and it is just slightly bigger than 4 inches in diameter, so it is perfectly sized to let lacquer get on the edges of the sound hole, but not inside the box.

I am still lacquering the guitar right now, very slowly. I am only getting about one coat a night and I have missed a few nights. On the plus side, each coat has a chance to gas off and so it should be nice and hard when I sand it. I leveled today after work, and I got one more coat on. I should be able to get one more on tonight. I might be ready to wet sand next week.

You'll press the frets then? And did you have Andy make the slots wider? Same width as barbs on tang?

Beth, my slots generally measure out about .025 to .027 (I think I need a better collet) so it should be ok. In conversations with David Collins, he says that's about perfect for a no-backbow fret job using CA glue to fill the gap.

For any inlay that spans a fret, I stop the inlay about .030 from the center of the slot. That pretty much guarantees that the fret will also cover the edge of the inlay as well.
