I'm not sure. I want one to use while I work and for shop cleanup. I would like a HEPA filter so am leaning towards the CT26. But it is awfully expensive.[/quote]

Maybe you can splain  all this to me on Sunday

The Festool "dust extractors" seem well built and no doubt work great. But I'd point out, that for about $60 you can upgrade a common "shop vacuum cleaner" Sho-Vac, Craftsman, etc. by adding a HEPA grade filter and an inline bleeder valve to regulate suction.

Thanks. This is actually what I do right now. I have a HEPA filter installed as well as a HEPA filter bags. Nevertheless, everyone seems to espouse the Festool dust collection system and it's been piquing my interest. :) Hard to resist.

I pulled the trigger on one. I was reading about how to make a shop vac work. The main issue is that the hose connectors are all mismatched in size, imagine that! But there are way's I'm sure. One hint I read was to drill a hole or two in a dedicated hose to regulate the flow.

One of my cheaper shop vacs actually has a connector that has a sliding opening that allows you to regulate the suction. I used to think it was stupid but now I realize they were smarter than me. :)

Well, it looks like A LOT of people liked the Festool offer. I just received an update on my order and he expected shipping date of early November has been pushed back to March. That's not cool, man.

No it isn't. I ordered one, and was looking forward to using it on a kitchen build that I start this week. If I get the same delivery date, I'll be cancelling mine, and get something that I can use now.

I have not gotten such an email. I got the extras I ordered like sandpaper from another company already. They were supposed to go out in early November.

I got the emails but I also don't mind waiting for a while since the Festool will be an additional sander.

Actually, I don't have an urgent need for mine. If you want it, I can afford to wait for the one you ordered.

Lemme know.

Steve

I just checked back on some emails, and my order status was changed to "Awaiting Fulfillment". Sounds like my life story for the last 20 years!
Thanks for the offer, Steve! I probably won't be doing any sanding for about six weeks or so.

Alex

I just got the email today noting a Mar 23 ship date. I suppose it will show up eventually. Good thing I don't need it quickly.

Demand exceeded production, so they have to manufacture more units. Maybe they have them in stock in the Lee Valley store that opened here last week.

I spoke to Jeremy at Atlas Machinery. He told me that they had 300 sanders on hand, but that there were far more orders than they could fulfill. He thought they might have been able to process my order, but I guess they didn't. Not too happy that I haven't received any word from them though.

Oh yeah I meant to report that mine came in as well, about two weeks ago. I won't have a chance to use it for a while yet. I think I will hook mine right up to my shop vac.

I've used mine with a Festool MIDI for a little over 10 years. I have the red paper (can't remember what it's called) up to 220, then Brilliant 2 up to 400, just started using Granat 2 at 800, and I have a box of Platin 1000. They're all great. Best paper I've used.

If you have a regular ol' vacuum, just find a way to make it work. I don't think there's anything magic about the Festool vacuums other than the Hepa filter and the fact that they're pretty quiet. I bought mine because of the low volume when I was working on the back patio of our condo and had to think about neighbors.
